Paula Montagna, MS, RD, CDN, Functional Nutrition Dietitian
Paula is a Registered Dietitian with 25 years of experience in the field of Nutrition and 10 years in Private Practice Nutrition Counseling. After graduating with a degree in Nutrition from the University of Connecticut, she continued her education at NY Hospital Cornell Medical Center where she completed her Dietetic Internship. In 1995, Paula earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition at New York University. In 2009, Paula discovered functional medicine and functional nutrition and never looked back. She recently completed a certificate of training in Integrative and Functional Medical Nutrition Therapy and Culinary Nutrition.
Paula has held various clinical nutrition positions progressing on to become the Chief Clinical Dietitian at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Paula is the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Southampton Hospital, where she manages the Clinical Nutrition Team and promotes Nutritional Wellness for patients, staff, and visitors. Paula also lectures extensively on “Food as Medicine” for clients and physicians as well. Her lectures not only educate but include a culinary demonstration which allows participants firsthand experience on how to incorporate the nutritional principles into their daily food choices.
Paula recently joined Smithtown Acupuncture and Wellness as our Functional Nutrition Dietitian to provide individualized nutrition plans to our patients. The patient’s preferences, food sensitivities, deep nourishment needs, and cultural influences are all addressed as part of their individualized nutrition plan. Paula educates her clients to understand the nutritional science of using whole foods and essential nutrients to heal the body. She teaches clients to create health-supportive meals to tame the inflammation in their bodies as well as to promote vitality and make them feel great! She strongly believes that food is medicine and is also an integral and necessary component in a person’s health and well-being.
